Dan Bucatinsky of The Comeback and Hacks adapted his own stage play about a heterosexual couple into a gay rom-com for the big screen — which served at the Closing Night film at Frameline25. A bubbly and hysterical gay alternative to When Harry Met Sally…, All Over the Guy follows two seemingly incompatible gay men (played by Bucatinsky and Richard Ruccolo), set up on a blind date by their mutual straight friends (Sasha Alexander and Adam Goldberg). But against all odds, suave, handsome schoolteacher Tom and nerdy but cute Eli find common romantic ground in — what else — their shared love of movies.
Featuring a rich ensemble cast which includes Christina Ricci, Andrea Martin, Doris Roberts, Joanna Kerns, and Bucantinsky’s longtime creative partner and friend Lisa Kudrow in a hilarious cameo, All Over the Guy provides the sort of trauma-free, lighthearted gay diversion that seems to be in short supply 25 years later… Let's be honest, couldn’t we all use some of that right about now?
